I currently have a USB modem to broadband. I bought a wireless router, the Ethernet ports. Currently, the modem in my downstairs computer which is connected with Windows 98, so it will bridge the connection to my computer upstairs (XP). I can not upgrade to XP because a family member "risk" is used.
Can I use the USB modem broadband access my wireless router with a cable adapter that is complicated selection of Ethernet> USB (I can not find a USB to Ethernet). If this is not possible if I connect the USB modem to my XP computer, I can bridge to connect my computer with Win 98 XP machine as a host?

I think that it is not their current Ethernet to USB, but USB to Ethernet. I see no reason why you should be able to connect the USB modem to the XP computer and use it as a bridge to the computer 98.
Of course it wouldSchoener, an all-in-one, but you can achieve your goal with this equipment. You can not convert to the USB adapter cable into the Ethernet modem. USB drivers must operate, and Ethernet connections do not provide drivers for this device. You could also connect the modem to the XP machine and bridge connections, yes. but you can leave the system as it is, and set the smooth flow as follows:
If I had the hardwear in front of me, wouldto provide simple reasons ... But I can probly give you an idea of what to do. There are only 2 steps here:
1 Configuring an Internet gateway.
2 Configuration of the router.
And the rest is easy.
1 Set the machine for a connection to the Internet (you can use the wizard, if you want, or simply to turn on Internet Connection Sharing), which turns 98 in a SHARE Internet gateway. Which brings needs an IP address designatedhowever. In essence, the 98-machine, the Internet server, so that the machine's IP-98 is the gateway IP. Assign an address, for example: 192.168.1.1 to-98 machine. The "192,168" is important, and the last threads that can stretch, but for the sake of simplicity can keep them low. * TIP * Always the subnet mask of 255.255.255.0. OK, that takes care of the host machine.
2 after you have an Internet gateway, wireless router and connect the console(Or IP) in the settings, usually coming in Internet Explorer and type 192.168.0.1 into the address bar, and look for a slot for the Internet gateway. Enter the address assigned in step 1. namely, that for the router. (There may be other settings that you need a specific network, and if there is, you configure them.)
Finally, a couple of cleaning. ensure that the working group is the same for both machines. I usually use MSHOME workgroup. Also make sureXP on your computer and your IP address is set to "Obtain IP address automatically", also known as DHCP.
